Remember in 5 years time its likely that 70-80 of TV broadcasts will be still in SD so I'd be careful buying 1080.Īlso will we be able to tell the difference. The likelyhood is that SDTV will look pretty poor on a 1080 panel just look at 768 panels now.

Sky will not be broadcasting in 1080p in the near future and most Blu Ray DVD's etc will be at 720p same as Xbox 360 etc. I think some people simply think the more pixels the better and think that by buying 1080p they are future proofing themselves but future proofing themselves for what? If your television properly handles a 1080i signal (doesn't either bob it, or convert it to 540p) then scaling it down to 720p will still look stunning, without any real noticeable loss in detail unless you are right up at the screen. 1080p24 can easily be distributed as a 1080i60 signal and then the television can use 3:2 pulldown to get it back to 24fps. Most, if not all developers, are currently targetting 720p for their games, as 1080p puts too much strain on the system to be worth using, especially when so few displays can even display it.ġ080p is not an official broadcast standard - it is only used in production, and only at 24fps for film. The PS2 could do 720p, based on its max output resolution (1280x1024) however not one single game ran at that resolution.

WHAT IS THE BEST 1080P OR 720P PS3

Personally I can't see there being much 1080 content in the near future (that I'll use, at least, as I don't plan to be an early adopter of SkyHD or HD-DVD/BluRay) so by the time it is widely available, I will almost certainly be buying a new television.Ī lot of people are wanting a 1080p display because the PS3 will be capable of outputting it, but that does not mean that games will actually run at that resolution.

If the majority of your time with the set was spent watching Sky, Freeview, Cable or DVDs, for example, I would recommend an ED display like the Sharp P50. Unless you actually plan to make use of the extra resolution, it is not worth it. I recently had a Philips 37PF9830, and 720p upscaled by the set to 1080p looked noticeably worse than 720p on a native 720p display. Televisions do an "ok" job of scaling, but not great. If you have a 1080i/p screen, it means that, for now, the majority of signals sent to the display will have to be upscaled. No, a higher resolution is not always better, in many cases it is worse. I also know it come down to the panel in question and also personal choice, but I would have though a 1920x1080 would have come out on top? I have seem quite a few threads stating native is best but equally I have seen may reviews stating 1080p is true HD and therefore should be the panel of choice. So here is the question, will a 1080p 1920x1080 panel display a 720p signal better than a 1366x768, or will it be the same or may be worse? Also will it display a 1080i better than a 1366x768, the same or worse? Out of these 720p or 1080i look to be the most popular formats. I plan to only have either up scaled or HD feeds, no SD at all.

WHAT IS THE BEST 1080P OR 720P PC

Most of my viewing will be via Sky HD when they sort themselves out, Xbox360, may be PC streaming, up scaled DVD and may be a PS3/Bluray when it lands. Now with the new Tosh range of LCD’s looking like they’re going to have 1080p capability I wondering if more is really better?

what is the best 1080p or 720p

I’ve convinced myself that I need a 1080p capable panel to be as future proof as I can get as I’m planning to spend around £2500 (probably more!) and it’s going to have to last for say 3-5 years.
